1920 Norton 17C
Similar to 16H but ÔCÕ stood for Colonial and they were export machines. This machine has had only 3 owners from new. Ordered from the factory to compete in the Johannesburg to Durban races (similar to Mille Miglia), the machine completed three successive races from 1920. The 16H and 17C were NortonÕs sports machines of the day having gearboxes and chain drive. This machine was eventually sold in the late 50s to a fellow Norton enthusiast. It was restored in the late 60s for a re-enactment of the famous JoÕburg to Durban run which it completed without undue fuss. A very rare machine from the days when James Lansdowne Norton was alive. This machine is his brainchild. It was brought to Australia by its current owner (a vintage racing car engineer/restorer). Superbly patinated with all correct documentation. Starts easily and runs as a well-fettled vintage machine should. Engine No 20 1021 Frame No 3459 Price
