Perhaps the finest
example of this unique year in existence. In 1950 over-the-counter Manxes
had, for the first time, aluminium tanks, magnesium wheels and double
knocker cambox. Sadly the frame was outdated by 1950 standards. The
works Nortons that year boasted the legendary "featherbed" frame and
everyone knew the production Manxes would have the same frame the following
year. The engine in this bike is a genuine Steve Lancefield. Steve Lancefield
was the only independent tuner who prepared World Championship winning
machines. Along with Francis Beart, Steve Lancefield could purchase
engines from the factory directly, which they did every 2 years or so.
Components were individually matched and selected. This engine has no
engine number as Lancefield did not stamp his own engines, save for
a very small 'SSL' in the cylinder head. This rolling chassis is 100%
original - it even has the original racing tyres! Repainted tanks and
guards have never been damaged or repaired. A new exhaust system copied
from the original has been fashioned.
